Charleston Tea Plantation's

America’s Only Tea Garden

We would like to thank all our friends who joined us on May 17th for the 2008 First Flush Festival. Perfect weather combined with food, fun, games and musical entertainment to make it a very special day for the nearly 3000 people who visited the Plantation on the 17th. Fresh American Classic Iced Tea was served throughout the day. 2008 1st Flush Loose Tea was available for sale along with a special T-Shirt made just for the 2008 Festival.

Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for the Third Annual First Flush Festival to be held at Charleston Tea Plantation on May 16, 2009.

Our 2008 tea harvest commenced on May 7th and we need to commend our Tea Maker—Stephen Fernandez—since the talk at the Festival was this years’ American Classic First Flush Tea is better than ever! Our own William Hall describes this years’ First Flush Tea as being “a perfect bright amber color, rich in undertones with a trace of floral character”. The 2008 tea season has started off strong—to the delight of most May visitors to the Plantation—and resulted in tea making virtually every day of the past month. The tea plants—camellia sinensis—appear to be in their best shape in years. 2008 should be a very good year for the Plantation as long as we receive a normal rainfall.

Something New!

Something new and exciting has been added to the Tea Plantation this Spring—our Pavilion. The Plantation Pavilion is located next to our largest irrigation pond and provides spectacular views in all directions. Visitors can now follow a walkway from the Shoppe Porch out under the Live Oaks, through an open field and along the edge of several tea fields before arriving at the Plantation Pavilion.

In addition to providing our daily visitors yet another special place on the Plantation to just sit back and “take it all in”, the Pavilion already serves as our “Outdoor Classroom” for the extensive education programs that we offer to students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. It’s the only place in America where our youth can learn their lessons surrounded by a tea plantation while enjoying fresh brewed American Classic Iced Tea!

The Plantation Pavilion is also available for private activities of all kinds—family reunions; business meetings, outings and dinners; wedding activities including the ceremony and reception, rehearsal dinners and bridal shower—in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that’s only available at Charleston Tea Plantation. To learn more about hosting an event at the Plantation Pavilion please call Linda Fasig at 843-559-0383 extension 202.

These are busy times on Wadmalaw Island. There is so much happening at Charleston Tea Plantation every day that it is difficult to keep our friends and guests to our web site up to date and current on all the activities. We encourage all to plan a trip to Charleston Tea Plantation—to see and enjoy for yourself—America’s Only Tea Garden!

Waddy - Charleston Tea Plantation Mascot Hi! My name is Waddy and I am the Charleston Tea Plantation's mascot. I have a very special life. I get to watch my tea plants grow as I hop from bush to bush. From late Spring to early Fall - every 18 days - we harvest and make tea from the bushes' new little leaves. If you look very closely at my bushes we may see each other!
